Lifelong learning is a big issue all around the globe. Almost all countries face structural change and need to qualify or requalify the adult population. This makes lifelong learning especially important for Galati, a region that is not only struck by structural change but also faces the closing of many of its vocational schools and has many adult people that lack proper training and have lost hope.
Children and Family Education
Education has a great importance in shaping the personality of young people. The basic goals of education are to impart the necessary qualifications for future employment but also to teach the children the society’s values and how one has to behave in a community. One of the principles of education is that all children should have equal access and opportunities. However Galati is far away from satisfying this principle as many families cannot afford good schools. Next to the problem of lacking access, there are also shortcomings familial environments of the children. Many families are headed by parents that are not present as they work abroad or are headed by parents that have serious issues in their own life and therefore fail to take proper care of their children. As a consequence many young people in the current generation of children do not receive the education they need and deserve.
The project focuses on providing equal educational opportunities for all children right from the start of their scholastic careers, regardless of ethical or social background. As this requires a comprehensive approach we aim to foster and encourage the cooperation and dialogue between parents, teachers/professors, non-profit organizations and charity foundations. Together we want to achieve a common goal: helping children to become responsible and socially aware human beings that have the qualifications to build up an existence in Romania.
The most important actors in this ambitious project are the parents. Therefore we will motivate as well as involve them from the beginning and make sure that they feel comfortable in their changing roles. By using innovative materials from the proven KiFa (A children and family education organization established by Neumayer) program we will empower them to become more self-reliant and take up their roles as modern and active parents.
Another strong focus will be on the institutional development and the regional and international cooperation. For this purpose our project approach will include the administrative districts of Braila and Galati, psychological counseling centers, youth welfare offices, schools and churches and our partners in Germany the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports from Baden-Württemberg as well as the KiFa organisation. The German partners will draw on their knowledge and design a concept for the interconnection of the Romanian partners and their capacity development. Furthermore KiFa will use their experience in teaching the people how to get engaged in developing their own communities.
